The famous base spec is an apron spec
Port Orange is specific about pavers in the public strip: six inches of limerock or crushed concrete, a water-table test, soil cement when the subgrade is too wet, a $75 processing fee, and meters kept 36 inches off the drive. Homeowners hear 'paver rule' and paste it under the pool cage. The packet is an improvements-in-the-right-of-way application. A deck that never leaves the lot is not that application. Using LBR numbers as a pool-deck base design is a category error. The driveway page is where that apron detail belongs.
What the deck still shares with the apron is water. A low Port Orange yard can have a wet subgrade. Ask the installer what base they will use if the excavation fills, and ask the building department which permit a patio or pool deck requires. This page did not find a pool-deck detail sheet as explicit as the apron detail, so it will not invent a thickness and attribute it to the city. 'Ask the building desk' is the accurate line.
Associations, especially Cypress Head
When a right-of-way file needs an association letter, that letter is about the strip. A deck inside the cage can still need the association for a different reason: covenants. Cypress Head's August 2022 driveway guidelines allow concrete or paver drives in grey concrete or an approved paver color, and they point at a 2013 paver sheet this project could not read as text. Those sentences are about driveways, defined as the run from the garage to the street. They are not a pool-deck palette. The association site does say exterior changes go through the ARC and that Port Orange or the county may still require a permit afterward. Submit the deck. Do not assume the driveway color list is the deck list, and do not assume the driveway list is irrelevant if the deck is visible. Ask. The Cypress Head page keeps the driveway limits in one place.
Other Port Orange communities, including sections people lump together as Woodhaven, were not given a verified deck standard on this page. Woodhaven's posted guidelines could not be tied to a city-specific architectural text we were willing to quote. If you live there, get that association's current sheet yourself.
Cage, heat, and the quote lines
Screened pools are ordinary in this city. Crews carry material through a side gate and cut around cage footers. Travertine is the stone people choose because bare feet notice heat. HomeAdvisor's installed band is $15 to $27 per square foot, and the 600 square foot table is $9,000 to $16,200 before removal that can reach $3,700. HomeGuide's around-the-pool pavers are $12 to $25. Last checked November 1, 2026. Coping and drains are extra. A glossy sealer on a wet deck is a slip problem. Prefer a texture you can walk with wet feet.
If the same week includes a new apron, split the invoice. Apron: city packet, fee, base that matches the water table, meter move. Deck: cage access, slope away from the house, association color, whatever patio permit the city names. One blended 'hardscape' price hides the $75 and hides a soil-cement swap. The overlay guide covers pavers on an old slab. The old concrete has to remain sound and below the door.
| Job | Public rule we could cite | What we will not cite |
|---|---|---|
| Street apron | $75 fee, water-table base test, owner-maintained ribbon curb | A pool-deck thickness |
| Pool deck inside the cage | Ask the city which flatwork permit applies. Association color if covenants require it. | The apron's LBR numbers as if they were a deck design |
| Cypress Head driveway | Concrete or pavers, approved color, ARC first | The unread 2013 pattern sheet, and a deck palette the driveway sheet does not state |
Checklist
- Price the deck and the apron as two scopes if you are doing both.
- Ask Port Orange what permit a pool deck or patio needs. Do not file only the right-of-way form.
- If Cypress Head or another association governs the lot, submit the deck color before you order stone.
- Do not treat the September 17, 2013 Cypress Head paver sheet as read. It was a scan without extractable text.
- Plan cage access, door clearance, and slope away from the house.
- Use the HomeAdvisor and HomeGuide bands as planning math only.
- Keep soil-cement and the $75 fee on the apron quote, not smeared across the deck.
Daytona Pavers will match you with an independent installer. We do not design bases and we do not claim pool decks we have built in Port Orange, because we do not build them.

Port Orange pool deck questions
Does the Port Orange water-table spec apply to my pool deck?
The spec is in the right-of-way apron packet. A deck inside the lot is not that packet. Ask the city what the deck permit requires instead of copying LBR numbers under the cage.
What is the $75 charge?
It is the processing fee on the right-of-way application. It is not a pool-deck permit fee. Confirm any separate patio fee with the building desk.
Does Cypress Head publish a pool deck color list?
The August 2022 sheet we read is about driveway resurfacing, stain, and paver drives. Exterior changes still go through the ARC. Ask the committee whether the deck uses the driveway palette. We did not read a deck-only sheet.
How much is a 600 square foot travertine deck to plan?
HomeAdvisor's table is $9,000 to $16,200 before removal. Its per-foot band is $15 to $27. Last checked November 1, 2026. Not a Port Orange quote.
Can you overlay the old concrete deck?
Only if it is sound, still clears the door, and still drains. The overlay guide explains the test. The city permit question remains.
Who installs the deck?
An independent installer you choose to hire. Daytona Pavers makes the introduction and does not charge you for it.
Request a Port Orange pool deck quote
Daytona Pavers is a free service that connects homeowners with local, independent paver installers. It is not itself the contractor. Your request is shared with a local installer so they can contact you with a quote.
Tell us about the project. We pass the request to a local, independent installer. You do not pay Daytona Pavers for the introduction, and you decide whether to hire anyone.
A budget range is optional. It is a planning hint, not a promise. Read how we handle this information on the privacy page.
