What failure looks like here
- A dip where a downspout or a pool overflow dumps water.
- Tire ruts in two stripes. The base was thin, or it was never compacted.
- A wavy border. The edge restraint has let go, which is common in loose sand.
- Empty joints and weeds. The sand washed out. That can be a re-sand, or it can be a sign the water path is wrong.
- A low corner next to a sprinkler leak. Fix the leak or the pavers will sink again.
Reset versus replace
Angi prices minor paver repairs, such as replacing a few units, around $200 to $500, and more extensive resetting or drainage work around $1,000 to $2,500. Those are national totals, not a per-square-foot menu. Broken pavers, a base that has turned to mush, or a border that has walked into the grass can push the repair toward a partial rebuild. If more than a third of a driveway is moving, price a new driveway next to the repair so you can compare.
Do not skim sand across the top of a low spot and call it fixed. The low spot is a hole in the base. Topping it off leaves a lip and it settles again after the next hard rain. Polymeric sand is a joint filler, not a structural patch.
After the repair
Ask the installer to extend the downspout, move a sprinkler, or add a small drain if water caused the dip. Then let the joints set before you seal. Sealing a damp, freshly sanded repair is how you get a white film. The sealing page covers timing.

Questions homeowners ask
How much does it cost to relevel pavers?
Angi puts minor paver repairs around $200 to $500 and more extensive resetting around $1,000 to $2,500. Those are national totals, not a per-square-foot rate. A ruined base costs more. Last checked November 1, 2026. This is not a quote.
Why did my pavers sink after a storm?
Water found a weak spot in the base or washed the bedding sand out. Downspouts, irrigation leaks, and missing edge restraint are the usual reasons on sandy lots. The storm was the trigger, not the whole cause.
Can I replace just the broken pavers?
Yes, if you can match them. Colors get discontinued. A few new pavers in an old field may look darker until they weather. Save leftovers from the original job if you still have them.
Should I seal right after a repair?
Wait until the new joint sand has set and the field is dry. Sealing the same day is a common way to trap moisture and haze the surface.
