Paver retaining walls and fire pits in Volusia County

Quick answer

A paver seat wall or a low garden wall is a different project from a wall that holds back a bank of soil. Fire pits are different again. Daytona Pavers can match you with a local installer for the straightforward versions. Taller retaining walls often need an engineered design and a permit. We do not provide that engineering.

Seat wall or retaining wall

A low seat wall around a patio is mostly a finished edge you can sit on. We are not publishing a per-foot wall price, because we did not find a public source we will cite as of November 1, 2026. Ask for caps, columns, and lighting as their own lines. A wall that keeps soil from moving is structural. Ask the city or county which height triggers an engineered drawing. Do not let a crew guess, and do not treat an unsourced number as the local rule.

  • Walls that hold soil need drainage behind them. In summer rain, a wall without a gravel chimney and a drain outlet holds water like a dam.
  • Sandy soil still needs a real footing. Setting block on loose sand is how walls lean.
  • Caps and columns change the look and the price. Ask to see them as separate lines.
  • If the wall is also a pool barrier, the height and the gates have to satisfy pool safety rules. That is not a decorative choice.

Fire pits

A simple paver fire pit, without a long gas line or a full circle of seating, should be its own line on the quote. We are not publishing a pit price without a source we will cite. Gas lines, a longer trench, or a pit under a screen cage change the job. Some cities and many associations limit open flames, and a low oak limb or a screen panel is a real constraint. Ask before you pick a spot in the middle of the new patio.

If the patio is not built yet, plan the wall and the pit with it. Retrofitting a gas sleeve or a footing through a finished paver patio means lifting pavers you just paid to set.

Questions homeowners ask

How much does a paver seat wall cost?

We do not publish a per-foot wall price. Ask for the wall as its own line. Taller walls that hold soil may need an engineered drawing. Confirm that trigger with the building department. This is not a quote.

Do I need an engineer for a retaining wall?

Often yes, once the wall is tall or it holds a slope, a driveway, or a pool. The cutoff is set by the local building department, not by a blog. Ask them before you hire, and treat any wall that keeps soil in place as structural until someone official says otherwise.

How much does a paver fire pit cost?

We do not publish a fire-pit total. Ask for it as its own line. Association limits and screen cages can change the design. This is not a quote.

Can a fire pit go inside a pool cage?

Sometimes, and sometimes the cage, the HOA, or the city says no. Heat and smoke against a screen are the issue. Get that answer before the patio is designed around the pit.

Request a quote for walls and fire pits

Daytona Pavers is a free service that connects homeowners with local, independent paver installers. It is not itself the contractor. Your request is shared with a local installer so they can contact you with a quote.

Tell us about the project. We pass the request to a local, independent installer. You do not pay Daytona Pavers for the introduction, and you decide whether to hire anyone.

A budget range is optional. It is a planning hint, not a promise. Read how we handle this information on the privacy page.
