Pavers in New Smyrna Beach, Florida

Quick answer

New Smyrna Beach splits at the river, just like Daytona. Beachside streets, often 32169, deal with salt, flood, and older small lots around the peninsula and Flagler Avenue. Mainland and Venetian Bay, often 32168, are where paver driveways are already the neighborhood look, so matching a color and maintaining it matters as much as a new install.

Venetian Bay and other mainland streets

In communities where pavers are the standard, a repair or a reseal can be the whole request. Bring a photo of the existing field if you need a match. HOA color lists are real. Canal lots need extra care near seawalls: do not let anyone excavate blindly along a wall. Describe the canal on the form.

Beachside and the peninsula

Salt, wind-driven rain, and tight side yards are the constraints, same as Daytona Beach Shores with a different city hall. Pool decks in travertine are popular because bare feet care about heat. Threshold height matters in a flood-prone neighborhood. A deck that is proud of the door is a problem in a storm, not a detail.

Numbers to start from

Mainland driveway planning still uses $10 to $18 per sq ft, about $6,000 to $10,800 for 600 square feet before haul-away. A 600 square foot travertine pool deck is $9,000 to $16,200 on HomeAdvisor's size table, before removal. Both are unpacked in the cost guides.

The 60 percent sheet

New Smyrna Beach's residential lot-calculation sheet counts driveways, sidewalks, and patios as impervious. Total impervious coverage, including the building, cannot exceed 60 percent of the lot. Building coverage alone cannot exceed 40 percent. Added impervious area is tied to additional stormwater storage on that sheet. The 2020 Census count is 30,142. Confirm the sheet still matches your zoning district. We are not saying every overlay district is identical.

That cap is why permeable pavers come up in Venetian Bay and on tight beachside lots. Permeable is not automatically exempt. Ask the city how it counts the product you want. Beachside streets, often 32169, add salt and flood. Mainland and Venetian Bay, often 32168, add association color lists. Edgewater and Ponce Inlet now have their own pages. They are not New Smyrna permits. Canal lots need care near seawalls. Do not excavate blindly along a wall.

  1. Fill out the lot sheet with the existing drive and the proposed pavers before you order material.
  2. Ask whether your product counts as impervious.
  3. Keep beachside salt and Venetian Bay color rules in separate notes.
  4. Use Edgewater or Ponce Inlet if that is the real city.

Questions about pavers in New Smyrna Beach

Do you cover Venetian Bay?

Yes. Put New Smyrna Beach on the form and mention Venetian Bay in the notes, including any color the HOA already requires.

What is different about beachside New Smyrna?

Salt, smaller lots, flood, and older houses. Walks, decks, and short drives are common. Ask about edges that will not rust and about the height at the door.

Can you match existing pavers?

An installer can try. Factories discontinue colors. A photo and a loose paver, if you have one, are the best start. An exact match is not guaranteed.

Is Edgewater included on the New Smyrna page?

Edgewater has its own city page and its own hold harmless. Use that page if the house is in Edgewater. This page is only New Smyrna Beach.

What is the New Smyrna Beach impervious limit?

The city's residential lot-calculation sheet says total impervious coverage cannot exceed 60 percent and building coverage cannot exceed 40 percent. Driveways, patios, and sidewalks count. Confirm it applies to your zoning district.

Is Edgewater included on this page?

Edgewater has its own page, with its own hold harmless. Ponce Inlet has its own page and paver packet. Do not use a New Smyrna permit for either city.
