Most local pools sit inside a screen cage. That changes the job. Material often comes through a side gate in a wheelbarrow, cuts have to work around cage footers, and deck drains and coping have to meet the shell you already have. Read the pool deck cost guide before you fall in love with a stone sample.
Heat, salt, and wet feet
Concrete pavers for pool decks often plan around $12 to $25 per sq ft installed. Travertine, the stone people choose because it tends to stay cooler, often plans around $15 to $27 per sq ft. Porcelain pavers, about $12 to $20 per sq ft, are dense and consistent, and the cuts around a freeform pool add labor. Light colors help. A south-facing deck with no afternoon shade will still need sandals in July.
Salt air on the peninsula and pool chemicals both matter for sealers. A thick wet-look sealer can look rich and then turn slippery when wet, or haze if it is rolled on in humid weather. Many coastal installers prefer a breathable penetrating sealer, and many wait weeks for efflorescence (the white mineral haze on new concrete pavers) to calm down before they seal at all. Details are on the sealing and cleaning page.
Drainage is the part guests never notice
- Pitch water away from the house and away from the pool. Installers often aim for a gentle fall, about 1/8 to 1/4 inch per foot, adjusted to the deck drains you already have.
- Do not let a new deck bury a skimmer, a cage footer, or an overflow line.
- Coping, the stone at the waterline, is often priced by the linear foot and is easy to leave out of a low bid.
- A textured surface is safer than a honed, polished one when kids are running.
What replacement usually costs to plan
Travertine on a 600 square foot deck is $9,000 to $16,200 on HomeAdvisor's size table, before the old concrete is removed. Concrete pavers around a pool are about $7,200 to $15,000 at HomeGuide's $12 to $25 per sq ft band, also before removal. HomeAdvisor says patio removal can reach $3,700. Cage repairs, new drains, and coping are extra.
What to ask before you pick a color
- How will the crew get material through the cage, and is that labor in the price?
- Where does rain go today, and where will it go after the new deck is in?
- Is coping included, or only the field pavers?
- Which finish stays grippier when wet?
- How soon can we walk on it, and when would you seal, if at all?

Questions homeowners ask
Which pool deck pavers stay coolest in Daytona?
Light travertine and light-colored concrete pavers are the usual answer, because darker charcoal colors absorb more sun. Nothing stays comfortable underfoot in full sun on an August afternoon. Shade still matters.
How much does a paver pool deck cost?
HomeGuide's installed band around a pool is $12 to $25 per square foot. HomeAdvisor's travertine band is $15 to $27, and its 600 square foot table is $9,000 to $16,200 before removal. Removal can reach $3,700 on that page. Last checked November 1, 2026. These are not quotes.
Can you paver over an existing pool deck?
Sometimes a sound slab can take a thin overlay system, and sometimes it has to come out so the new base can be built at the right height for coping and doors. An installer needs to see the deck. A pretty overlay on a cracked, high slab can block doors and hold water.
Does a screen cage change the price?
Yes. Working inside a cage is slower, and a narrow side gate means pavers are carried in. Ask for that labor to be visible in the quote instead of appearing later as a surprise.
