The published interval
HomeGuide's sealing page says the coating often lasts 3 to 5 years. It lists the things that change that: sealer type, how hard the surface is used, humidity, whether the area is enclosed, and trees that drop debris. Solvent-based sealer on that page is described as lasting 4 to 5 years in the product comparison, with the cons that it can be slippery and can haze. Water-based sealer is described as shorter lived and more breathable. Angi says sealing is needed every 3 to 5 years at $1 to $3 per square foot, and that a hired visit often costs $300 to $800. The full clean, sand, and seal on HomeGuide is $1.50 to $3.25 per sq ft. Last checked November 1, 2026. These are publisher ranges. They are not a Volusia code section.
Beachside versus inland
Daytona Beach Shores, Ponce Inlet, beachside New Smyrna, and Ormond-by-the-Sea take salt spray as ordinary weather. Salt sits on the film, and wind-driven rain sands it. A driveway in Deltona or DeLand does not get that spray. Shade under live oaks keeps a surface damp and feeds mildew, which is a different wear pattern: biological staining rather than salt. Inspect a beach deck on the short end of the 3 to 5 year range. Inspect a sunny inland drive on the long end, unless irrigation rust or tire marks bother you sooner. We are not turning that into an 18-month rule. Installer blogs sometimes do. This page stays with the two publishers above.
Pool decks and gloss
A glossy solvent film is the product most likely to be slick when pool water and salt hit it. HomeGuide says that out loud. If bare feet are the point of the deck, ask for a breathable product and a wet test. Travertine is stone, not concrete paver, and it has its own absorption. Do not assume the concrete-paver jug is the right one. The travertine comparison is the material page. The cost page is the dollar page.
When to skip sealer
Skip it on new concrete pavers that are still showing efflorescence. Skip it the same day as a wash if the product requires a dry surface. Skip it as a cure for sinking, weeds that are really empty joints, or a color the association rejected. Cleaning alone, at HomeGuide's $0.35 to $0.80 per square foot for the wash, is a legitimate visit when the joints are still full and you only have surface dirt.
- Start from 3 to 5 years, then shorten the look-see if you are on the barrier island or under heavy oak shade.
- Re-sand before you seal if the joints are open.
- Ask if the product is breathable and whether it is slippery wet.
- Do not seal new concrete until the white haze stops spreading.
- Budget HomeGuide's $1.50 to $3.25 if you want the full visit, or Angi's $1 to $3 if you are using that maintenance figure. Say which one.
A simple inspection instead of a calendar alarm
Put a reminder at three years, then go outside and look. Water should still bead a little if a film is doing its job. If it soaks in immediately, the film is tired. If the joints are empty, you need sand whether or not you buy sealer. If the surface is white and chalky on a one-year-old charcoal driveway in Orange City, you may be looking at efflorescence that was sealed too soon, not at a product that 'wore out.' If the same chalk shows up only after a salty week in Ponce Inlet, rinse before you condemn the coating. Those checks take ten minutes and they stop a reseal that makes a bad surface permanent.
Inland and beachside should not share a work order. A Deltona driveway that still beads at year four can wait. A Daytona Beach Shores deck that feels slick and looks dull at year two should be washed and discussed, even if a blog told you to wait for year three. HomeGuide's range is 3 to 5 years for a reason: it already says traffic, shade, and weather move the number. Use the range as the question you ask the company, not as a fine the city will issue. There is no sealing ordinance on the city pages we checked. The permit guide is about building the surface, not about recoating it.
Frequency is not the same as a cure window
How many years between sealing visits is this page. How many hours the joints must stay dry is the polymeric sand guide. Stone decks do not inherit the concrete jug. Use travertine sealing when the surface is travertine.

Questions homeowners ask
How often should pavers be sealed near the beach in Florida?
Use HomeGuide's 3 to 5 year range, and look sooner on the barrier island because of salt. There is no Volusia ordinance that sets 18 months. Last checked November 1, 2026.
How often should an inland driveway be sealed?
The same published 3 to 5 years is the starting point. Shade, irrigation rust, and traffic move it. A sunny Deltona drive is not a Ponce Inlet deck.
What does sealing cost?
HomeGuide: $1.50 to $3.25 per square foot including cleaning and joint sand. Angi: $1 to $3 per square foot as maintenance, or about $300 to $800 for a pro visit. National figures, not quotes.
Do I have to seal pavers?
No law on this page requires it. Sealer is a maintenance choice. Joint sand and a sound base matter more than a film on day one.
Can you book the sealing?
We can match you with a local company. Daytona Pavers does not seal pavers and does not sell the product.
Request a quote after you have a range in mind
Daytona Pavers is a free service that connects homeowners with local, independent paver installers. It is not itself the contractor. Your request is shared with a local installer so they can contact you with a quote.
Tell us about the project. We pass the request to a local, independent installer. You do not pay Daytona Pavers for the introduction, and you decide whether to hire anyone.
