The price difference, cited
| Surface | Published band | About 600 sq ft | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Travertine, installed | $15 to $27 per sq ft | $9,000 to $16,200 | HomeAdvisor size table matches $15 to $27 |
| Pavers around a pool | $12 to $25 per sq ft | $7,200 to $15,000 | HomeGuide, not travertine-specific |
| Concrete pavers, installed, general | $8 to $15 per sq ft | Straight math varies | HomeGuide concrete paver sentence of $8 to $15 |
HomeAdvisor also says travertine material alone, for a DIY stack, is about $4 to $11 per square foot, and labor can be $50 to $100 per hour or $5 to $10 per square foot on top of material. Do not add those on top of the $15 to $27 installed band or you will double count. Removal of an old deck can reach $3,700. Last checked November 1, 2026.
Heat and bare feet
The reason travertine shows up on Volusia pool decks is heat. HomeAdvisor calls it a dense limestone that stays cool underfoot. Concrete pavers in a light color are the middle path. Charcoal concrete in full western sun is the hot path. No material fixes August at 2 p.m. without shade. If the deck is in Daytona Beach Shores or Ponce Inlet, salt is the second constraint: rinse it, and do not assume a glossy sealer belongs on either material.
Slip, holes, and sealing
Travertine is a natural stone with natural pits. A honed or filled finish is a different barefoot feel from a tumbled one. Ask to walk a wet sample. Concrete pavers are more uniform and usually cheaper, and they can show efflorescence when new. HomeGuide's sealer notes apply to paver films: solvent-based products can be slippery and can haze. Stone may want a different product. Do not buy the concrete jug for the travertine without asking.
Where each one fits locally
Travertine is the common upgrade on screened pools in Port Orange, Ormond Beach, and New Smyrna Beach, where bare feet and a cage are the brief. Concrete pavers are the usual driveway and a fair deck if the color stays light and the budget is the constraint. Inland Deltona drives rarely need travertine under tires. HomeAdvisor prices a travertine driveway as a project total of $21,000 to $27,000 without a per-square-foot band. We will not invent one. The overlay guide covers setting either material on old concrete.
- Walk a wet sample of the exact finish, not a photo.
- Pick a light color if the deck is in full sun.
- Keep coping, drains, and cage access as separate lines.
- Cite $15 to $27 for travertine and $12 to $25 for the broader around-a-pool band, and do not mix them.
- Ask which sealer, if any, belongs on that stone.
How to read two pool quotes without mixing bands
Lay the quotes next to HomeAdvisor's $15 to $27 for travertine and HomeGuide's $12 to $25 around a pool, and force each line to name the material. A $14 concrete-paver number on a Port Orange cage deck can be honest. A $14 travertine number is under the HomeAdvisor band and deserves the question of what was left out: bedding, edge, coping, or the haul-away that can reach $3,700. A $28 concrete number may be a complicated cut around a freeform pool, not a travertine price in disguise. Ask for the square footage they measured inside the cage, not the old brochure square footage. Freeform pools waste stone. The waste is labor. It should be visible.
Then stand on a sample at the hour you actually swim. West-facing decks in Ormond Beach and New Smyrna cook by midafternoon. Travertine's reputation for staying cooler is why people pay the higher band, and a light concrete paver is the compromise when the budget stops at the HomeGuide pool band. Dark charcoal is a look, not a comfort. Salt on the peninsula will sit on either surface. The sealing page is where that maintenance lives. Do not let a showroom tell you travertine never needs anything. Ask what they will put on it, and whether you can walk it wet without a film that HomeGuide already warns can be slippery.
Heat claims and the stone jug
This comparison is about material and price. Measured surface temperatures are handled, mostly by refusing unsourced deltas, on the pool deck heat guide. Maintenance jugs for the stone side are on travertine sealing.

Questions homeowners ask
Is travertine or concrete paver better for a Florida pool deck?
Travertine usually stays cooler and costs more. HomeAdvisor's installed band is $15 to $27. Concrete pavers are often cheaper and get hotter when the color is dark. The base and the slope still decide whether either one lasts.
How much is a 600 square foot travertine deck?
HomeAdvisor's table says $9,000 to $16,200 before removal. Removal can reach $3,700 on that page. Last checked November 1, 2026. Not a quote.
Are concrete pavers cheaper around a pool?
HomeGuide's around-a-pool band is $12 to $25 per square foot, about $7,200 to $15,000 for 600 square feet. That band is not only concrete, so read the quote's material line.
Does travertine need sealer?
Often yes, but the product is not automatically the concrete-paver sealer. HomeGuide's 3 to 5 year range is for paver sealer generally. Ask with a wet sample in hand.
Can Daytona Pavers install either one?
No. We match you with an independent installer. The contract is with them.
Request a quote after you have a range in mind
Daytona Pavers is a free service that connects homeowners with local, independent paver installers. It is not itself the contractor. Your request is shared with a local installer so they can contact you with a quote.
Tell us about the project. We pass the request to a local, independent installer. You do not pay Daytona Pavers for the introduction, and you decide whether to hire anyone.
