Sealing travertine pavers in Florida

Quick answer

Travertine needs a stone sealer, not a concrete-paver jug. Alliance Gator's July 17, 2025 sheet wants dry stone, air between 50 and 80 degrees, and is rain-safe after 24 hours. Waypoint's travertine sheet says to protect the surface from rain for 3 hours. HomeGuide's $1.50 to $3.25 band is a different job.

Do not price stone with the concrete band

HomeGuide's August 16, 2024 page prices a clean, joint sand, and seal at $1.50 to $3.25 per sq ft, about $900 to $1,950 for 600 square feet, and says that kind of coating often lasts 3 to 5 years. The page is about paver sealing in general and discusses solvent-based films that can be slippery and can haze. It does not say those dollars are a travertine-only visit, and it does not say the 3-to-5-year sentence was measured on Florida travertine. Use the band when you mean that published concrete-paver service. When the deck is travertine, ask the company to price the stone product they will actually use. We did not find a separate travertine price table we will cite.

HomeAdvisor's travertine page is an installation price, $15 to $27 per square foot, not a maintenance price. Overlay and removal notes on that page belong to the build, not to a sealer jug. If the deck is new, the install band and the sealing visit are different invoices.

Two natural-stone sealer sheets read November 1, 2026. They do not share one rain clock.

Alliance Gator natural stone, July 17, 2025100 percent dry. Unsealed stone only. Not sold as a resealer.Apply between 50 and 80 F. Surface cool to the touch.Rain-safe after 24 hours. Foot traffic after 8 hours on that sheet.
Waypoint WPT300, travertineCompletely dry. Acrylic films must be stripped first. A penetrating sealer may be recoated.Above 95 F surface is marginal. Below 50 F air cures slowly. Do not freeze.Protect from rain and sprinklers for 3 hours.

What the Gator stone sheet tells the applicator

The July 17, 2025 sheet describes a water-based, non-film-forming enhancer that darkens the color. It says to use one layer, to test about 4 square feet first, and to wipe excess so it does not dry into a white film or a slippery residue. It says the sealer is not anti-slip and that pool and shower edges need caution. It lists salt-water pool patios as a use. That is the manufacturer's claim for this jug, not a Volusia ordinance. It also says the product is not for food surfaces, glazed tile, or non-porous surfaces, and that it should not be pressure-washed. If polymeric sand from that brand was just installed, the sheet says to wait at least 48 hours at 50 degrees or warmer with no rain before the sealer, after a separate cleaning step. Those waits are easy to skip and easy to see later as haze.

Waypoint's sheet is narrower. The file name says travertine only. It wants a single light coat, excess blown off puddles rather than brushed, and a morning application when afternoons cook the surface. Previously sealed acrylic has to come off. A prior penetrating sealer can be covered. The 3-hour rain protection is not the Gator sheet's 24 hours. Write the product name on the work order so nobody 'splits the difference' at 12 hours.

Salt, holes, and the pool edge

Travertine is a limestone with natural pits. A filled or honed finish feels different underfoot from a tumbled one. The preservation problem for historic coquina, a different shell limestone, is porosity. Travertine's pits are a maintenance surface, not a historic ruin, but they hold water and sunscreen. Neither stone sheet we read claims the sealer fills structural cracks. Waypoint says the product seals the surface itself, not fractures. A crack that is moving is a deck problem, not a sealer problem.

Beachside salt is why people reseal sooner on the barrier island. The sealing frequency guide explains that as an inspection habit, not as an ordinance. The Gator sheet's mention of salt-water pool patios is the closest product sentence we found. It still does not publish a month count for Daytona Beach Shores. If the deck is concrete pavers that only look like stone, you are on the concrete band and the efflorescence guide, not this page.

Checklist before anyone sprays

  1. Confirm the deck is travertine, not concrete pavers with a stone color.
  2. Name the sealer. Do not accept 'the same jug as the driveway.'
  3. Read that sheet's rain wait and temperature window. 3 hours and 24 hours are both real and not the same.
  4. Test a hidden patch, including how much the color darkens.
  5. Keep irrigation off, and do not spray at 3 p.m. if the sheet caps surface temperature.
  6. Ask for a wet walk. A enhancer that is not anti-slip can still be the wrong jug beside a pool.
  7. Price the visit on its own. Do not assume HomeGuide's $1.50 to $3.25 covers this stone product.

What this page will not guess

Last checked November 1, 2026. No travertine reseal interval in years is published here. No claim is made that one brand outlasts another in salt air. Daytona Pavers does not sell sealer and does not employ an install crew. The pool deck heat guide is the companion if the question is bare feet rather than stains.

Questions homeowners ask

How often should travertine be sealed in Florida?

The stone sheets we read give application rules, not a year interval. HomeGuide's 3-to-5-year sentence is on a paver sealing page and was not copied onto those stone sheets. Inspect the deck and follow the jug. Last checked November 1, 2026.

Can I use concrete paver sealer on travertine?

Only if that jug says natural stone or travertine. A concrete film can be slippery and can haze. Read the sheet before you spray.

Does travertine sealer make the deck cooler?

No temperature drop was stated on the sheets we read. One sheet warns against applying when the surface is already very hot. That is a workmanship limit, not a cooling claim.

How much does travertine sealing cost?

We did not find a travertine-only price table. HomeGuide's $1.50 to $3.25 per square foot is the concrete-paver clean, sand, and seal band. Ask for a stone price. It is not a quote from this site.

How long after polymeric sand can I seal travertine?

The Gator stone sheet says at least 48 hours after that brand's polymeric sand, with the stone dry. SRW's sand page says 28 days before sealing. Match the wait to the products on your deck.

Will you seal the deck?

No. Choose paver sealing on the form and say the material is travertine. We match you with an independent company.
