Side by side
| Topic | Pavers | Poured concrete |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront driveway cost | $10 to $30 per sq ft is a published paver band | $8 to $20 per sq ft is a published band for a standard broom finish |
| 600 sq ft driveway, straight math | $6,000 to $18,000 on the wide paver band | $4,800 to $12,000 |
| Repair | Lift a section, fix the base, reset the units | A crack is in the sheet. Patches show, or you replace a panel |
| Sandy soil | Joints can take small movement if the base and edges are right | A slab can crack when the sand shifts under it |
| Heat | Dark pavers get hot. Light stone stays cooler | Color and shade decide it. Stamped concrete can also burn bare feet |
| Rain | Drains through joints once the sand is in, still needs slope | Sheets water across the surface. Slope is everything |
| Look | Patterns, borders, easy color changes | Clean and simple, or stamped patterns that mimic pavers until they crack |
| Sealing | Optional, and often delayed on new concrete pavers | Not always required. Decorative finishes may want a sealer |
| Time to use | Often walk the same day. Cars after the installer says the joints are set | Keep vehicles off longer while it cures |
When a slab is the better fit
Choose poured concrete when the budget is the constraint, the shape is simple, and you like the look of a plain slab. A well-built broom finish on a real base can serve for years. Stamped or colored concrete can cost as much as pavers, and when it cracks you see the crack across the pattern. If that tradeoff is acceptable, a concrete contractor is the right call. Daytona Pavers does not pour slabs and will not pretend to.
When pavers are the better fit
- You want to repair one sunken area later instead of replacing a panel. See repair and releveling.
- The HOA wants a paver look, which is common in west Ormond, Palm Coast, and parts of New Smyrna Beach.
- You are paving a pool deck and care about heat. Light travertine or light concrete pavers are the usual answer. Details are on the pool deck page.
- The soil moves and you would rather see a reset joint than a jagged crack.
The part that is the same
Water, sand, and a thin base ruin both systems. A driveway still wants compaction, a sensible thickness, and a place for rain to go. The apron at the street may still need a permit. If you already know you want pavers, the driveway cost guide is the next page. If you want a quote from a paver installer, use the form. If you want a slab, hire a concrete company directly.
Stamped concrete is not the cheap slab
Angi's 2026 concrete driveway page lists an overall band of $8 to $20 per square foot. Plain finish is about $6 to $8. Broom finish is $8 to $12. Stamped and imprinted finishes are $12 to $18. Stained is $18 to $20. Standard paver driveways on Angi's paver page are $10 to $18, and decorative pavers are $18 to $30. A stamped slab can cost as much as a standard paver drive, and the crack still runs through the pattern. That is the honest comparison, not a claim that pavers always win. On sandy Volusia lots the repair difference matters more than the first invoice. A paver section can be lifted. A stamped slab is one sheet. Neither survives a thin base or a drive that dams a swale. If the project is a pool deck rather than a driveway, travertine versus concrete pavers is a heat question, covered on its own page. Poured concrete around a pool is a third option and is usually the hottest under bare feet when the color is dark.
A Volusia driveway is a drainage argument
The cost table is national. The reason to care, on this coast, is what happens when sand moves and a summer storm hits a swale. A broom-finish slab at Angi's $8 to $12 sheds water in a sheet. If that sheet runs at the garage or into a neighbor's yard, the cheap slab becomes a grading problem. Pavers at $10 to $18 still need a slope. They also give you a joint that can pass some water once the sand is in, which is not the same thing as a permeable system. Stamped concrete at $12 to $18 can match a paver price and still crack as one picture. On a Deltona lot with a roadside swale, or a Port Orange apron that has to meet a water-table rule, write the drainage answer into the bid before you fall in love with the pattern.

Questions homeowners ask
Are pavers cheaper than concrete in Daytona Beach?
Usually no, against a plain broom finish. Angi lists broom-finished concrete at $8 to $12 per square foot and stamped concrete at $12 to $18. Standard paver driveways are $10 to $18, and decorative pavers are $18 to $30. Last checked November 1, 2026. These are national ranges, not quotes.
Which holds up better on sandy soil?
Whichever one has the better base. Pavers have an advantage when something does move, because a section can be lifted and reset. A slab tends to crack as one piece.
Which is cooler by the pool?
Light-colored pavers, especially travertine, are the common choice for bare feet. Dark pavers and dark stamped concrete both get hot. Shade still matters.
Can Daytona Pavers quote a concrete slab?
No. We match homeowners with independent paver installers. If you want poured concrete, contact a concrete contractor. The comparison on this page is here so you can decide before you do either.
How much is stamped concrete compared with pavers?
Angi lists stamped concrete driveways at $12 to $18 per square foot and standard paver driveways at $10 to $18. Decorative pavers run $18 to $30. Last checked November 1, 2026. National ranges, not quotes.
