Paver sealing and cleaning in Daytona Beach

Quick answer

Paver sealing and cleaning is maintenance, not a new install. In this climate the usual stains are irrigation rust, oak tannins, mildew in the shade, salt crust near the ocean, and tire marks on a driveway. Cleaning too hard blows the joint sand out. Sealing too soon, or with the wrong product, can haze or turn a pool deck slippery.

You do not have to seal new pavers on day one. Concrete pavers often show efflorescence, a white haze from minerals in the concrete. It usually fades. Trapping it under a film sealer is a common regret. The sealing cost guide separates a wash from a full clean, re-sand, and seal.

Two kinds of sealer, in plain language

  • A penetrating sealer soaks in and leaves the color close to natural. It is the safer default near the ocean and on pool decks.
  • A film-forming, or wet-look, sealer darkens the pavers and sits on the surface. It can look sharp and it can get slick when wet, peel, or turn white if the pavers were damp.
  • Natural stone such as travertine has its own products. A concrete-paver sealer is not automatically right for it.

What cleaning should and should not do

A careful clean lifts the stain and leaves the joints. A harsh pressure-washer tip carves the sand out and can scar the paver face. After a deep clean, plan to re-sand. Polymeric sand needs dry weather to set, which is awkward from June through October when storms build most afternoons. Inland shade in DeLand and oak-heavy yards grows mildew faster than a sunny beach driveway.

Planning ranges

A full clean, re-sand, and seal often plans around $1.50 to $3.25 per sq ft. On a 600 square foot driveway that is about $900 to $1,950. Pressure washing alone is often $0.35 to $0.80 per sq ft, about $210 to $480 at that size, if it is done ahead of the sealer. Angi says a pro maintenance visit often runs $300 to $800. Heavy rust or a failed old sealer costs more because it is a different chemical job.

There is no honest single schedule. A sunny mainland driveway might go several years between seals. A shaded patio or a beachside deck might want a wash every year and a fresh sealer every 2 to 4 years, depending on the product. If joints are empty or the surface is dipping, cleaning will not fix it. That is repair and releveling.

Questions homeowners ask

How much does it cost to seal a paver driveway?

HomeGuide's clean, joint sand, and seal band is $1.50 to $3.25 per square foot, about $900 to $1,950 for 600 square feet. Pressure washing alone, if done ahead, is $0.35 to $0.80 per square foot on that page. Angi also cites $1 to $3 per square foot for sealing every 3 to 5 years. Last checked November 1, 2026.

Should I seal brand new pavers right away?

Usually no. Wait until the white mineral haze, called efflorescence, has had time to fade, and until the pavers are dry. Sealing too early can trap that haze under the coating.

Why do my pavers look rusty?

Irrigation water in Florida is often high in iron. It spots light pavers, especially next to sprinkler heads. A rust remover made for pavers is the usual fix. A sealer can slow the next round. It does not stop the sprinkler.

Will sealing make a pool deck slippery?

A thick topical wet-look sealer can. If the deck is for bare feet, ask for a penetrating sealer or a product with grip, and ask to see a wet sample, not only a dry one.
